A quick stop at Cheonggyecheon in Seoul, a stream that was buried under concrete and a highway, then dug out again in 2005. Now it’s lit up at night and a favourite running spot.

Hey, what’s up? We’re here at the Cheonggyecheon River. Now, this used to be where the rainwater would drain from the capital, and then, as Seoul industrialized, it was just filled with, waste and got really nasty and dirty. So they just, just covered it over with cement, concrete, and then they put a highway over top. But, that was pretty ugly. So then in, about 2005, they tore down the highway and made this, a really cool, river that’s lit up at night. They call it the illuminated River. And, I heard it’s a great running spot, and it’s just really, really pretty at night especially when everything’s all lit up. I’m sure it’s nice during the day too. This used to be a shanty town way back when, people seeking their fortunes in Seoul would, move to the river and, put up a shack or a shanty, and then they would all live around here, until they got situated. But, yeah, nice to see the Cheonggyecheon River is back. Peace out.
